Who is Alicia Key?
Alicia Keys is a thirty-nine-year-old American singer, songwriter, and actress. Over the course of her career, Keys has sold over thirty million albums, received fifteen Grammy Award nominations, and has led philanthropic efforts to provide assistance to families who live with HIV and AIDS. She’s a well-known and respected figure not only in the United States but across the global music community.
Where Is She Born?
Born in Hell’s Kitchen, a formerly crime-ridden neighborhood of New York City, Keys (whose given name is Alicia Cook) was raised by a single mother. She took to music immediately, listening to jazz artists and singing in school productions from the time she was a preschooler. Her mother provided her with opportunities to develop her artistic talent, and by age fifteen she had already signed to the music label Columbia Records. She graduated high school early as the valedictorian of her class, and initially enrolled in Columbia University to study and pursue a musical career simultaneously. The pressure of trying to do so much at once was ultimately too much to handle, and Keys dropped out of college to focus entirely on music.
Her Adult Life and Career?
Keys has had a long and successful music career. Her popular songs include “No One,” “If I Ain’t Got You,” and “Girl on Fire” among many others. She has collaborated with a number of rap and hip-hop artists, such as JAY-Z, Drake, and Nicki Minaj. Her album Songs in A Minor, which featured the hit song “Fallin'”, won five Grammy Awards. Keys is still producing music today-her newest album ALICIA was supposed to drop in May 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her Albums & Movie
Her fame as an artist extends far beyond the music scene. Keys has accumulated many television and film credits, from cameos in popular series to appearances on late-night shows like Saturday Night Live. She was a coach for three seasons on The Voice alongside Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and Miley Cyrus. In March of 2020, she released a memoir entitled: More of Myself: A Journey.
Keys is married to Kasseem Dean, a DJ, and producer who performs under the moniker “Swizz Beatz.” Together they have two children, Egypt Daoud Dean and Genesis Ali Dean. Keys and her husband have known each other since they were teenagers. They now lead a quiet and secluded life in California but return frequently to New York City-their hometown-for events and special appearances.
